João Pessoa’s restaurant scene is strong on fresh seafood at prices well below Fortaleza or Rio equivalents.

Kilo restaurants (pay by weight) are the best value for lunch — a full plate with meat, rice, beans, and salad costs R$20–40 (~$4–8 USD). Street tapioca from R$5–12. The food court at Mercado de Artesanato is cheap and good. Padarias (bakeries) do excellent breakfast for R$8–15.

Mid-range — $10–30 per meal

Sit-down restaurants in Tambaú and Manaíra. Fresh seafood is the local strength — grilled lobster, shrimp, and fish at prices that are genuinely lower than equivalent restaurants in Rio or Fortaleza. A main course at a good restaurant runs R$35–70 (~$7–14 USD).

Drinks

Beer: R$6–10 (~$1.20–2 USD) at a barraca. Caipirinha: R$15–25 (~$3–5 USD) at a restaurant. Coconut water on the beach: R$8–10. Fresh juice at a juice bar: R$8–12.
