Pajuçara — Best for First-Timers
Pajuçara is the most touristic and most convenient neighborhood in Maceió. The natural pool boats depart from here, the handicraft fair is steps away, and the highest concentration of tour operators and restaurants is along the waterfront. The tradeoff is atmosphere — Pajuçara is busy and commercial. The beach is the most crowded in the city and the waterfront vendors can feel overwhelming. Jatiúca — Best for Nightlife
Jatiúca is the northernmost of the three main neighborhoods and the best for evening entertainment. The concentration of bars and restaurants near the beach is the highest in Maceió, and the nightlife stays active later than in Pajuçara or Ponta Verde. The beach itself is quieter and cleaner than Pajuçara with a more local, less commercial feel.

Centro (city center) — fine for daytime visits to specific attractions but not recommended as a base. Limited tourist infrastructure and security concerns after dark.
Inland neighborhoods — any neighborhood more than 3–4 blocks from the beach in Maceió has higher crime rates and no tourist infrastructure. Never necessary for a visitor.
Near the airport — the airport is 25km from the tourist zone. Staying near it saves nothing and means a taxi to everything you want to do.
