Day 1 — Village and Main Beaches

Praia de Pipa Brazil main beach cliffs first day arrival

Praia de Pipa on arrival day — the main beach in front of the village, the best place to get oriented and check the tide for the Praia do Amor walk.

Morning

Arrive from Natal and check in

Pipa is 1.5 hours from Natal by car or Uber. Aim to arrive before noon to make the most of the afternoon. Check tide times for the day as soon as you’re settled — this determines whether you can walk around the cliff base to Praia do Amor.

Afternoon

Praia de Pipa and the village

Walk down to the main beach to get your bearings. The beach is a short walk from the village center. Have lunch at one of the barracas — fresh fish, cold beer, and time to adjust to the pace. Then walk the main street of the village to find where the restaurants and bars are for the evenings ahead.

Late afternoon

Praia do Amor and the viewpoint

Head to Praia do Amor — either via the clifftop trail or around the cliff base at low tide. Climb up to the headland viewpoint before sunset. The combination of red cliffs and turquoise water from above is the defining image of Pipa. Sunset from here is worth timing your day around.

Evening

Dinner on the main strip

The village main street has enough good options to eat well without much planning. Seafood is the obvious choice — shrimp and fish at prices significantly lower than Natal or Fortaleza. After dinner, the terrace bars fill up if you want a drink with a view over the cliffs.

Day 2 — Dolphins and Lagoa de Guaraíras

Lagoa de Guaraíras Pipa Brazil dolphins boat tour sandbar morning

Lagoa de Guaraíras in the morning — the best time for dolphin sightings, when the resident pod of spinner dolphins is most active near the surface.

7:00 AM

Early morning dolphin tour

The boat departs early — dolphins are most active before 9am. The tour takes you out into Lagoa de Guaraíras where the resident pod of spinner dolphins lives. Sightings are frequent but not guaranteed. The sandbar stop in the middle of the lagoon is a highlight regardless — warm, clear water, surrounded by dunes.

10:00 AM

Return and breakfast

Back at the village by mid-morning. Have a proper breakfast at your pousada or one of the cafés on the main street — most pousadas include breakfast but confirm at check-in.

Afternoon

Free afternoon — beach or rest

Keep the afternoon open. Option 1: back to Praia de Pipa or Praia do Amor for a proper swim. Option 2: walk up to the Mirante do Chapadão for the panoramic view over the entire coastline. Option 3: do nothing — Pipa rewards deceleration.

Sunset

Cacimbinhas sunset viewpoint

Cacimbinhas is a smaller viewpoint south of the main village with a clear sightline over the ocean at sunset. Less visited than Chapadão and worth the short walk. Bring a drink from the village — there’s sometimes a small bar but don’t count on it.

Book the dolphin tour in advance through GetYourGuide — early morning slots fill up fast and the guides know the best areas of the lagoon for sightings.

Day 3 — Buggy South to Sibaúma

Buggy tour Pipa Brazil coastline south Sibaúma dunes day trip

Buggy south from Pipa — the coastline opens up quickly once you leave the village, with dunes, remote beaches, and almost no other tourists on weekdays.

9:00 AM

Buggy hire and departure south

Book a buggy through your pousada or directly from one of the operators at the village entrance. A half-day circuit south covers Sibaúma and the dune landscape. Costs around R$150–200 per buggy — split between four people it’s very manageable. Bring water, sunscreen, and cash.

10:00 AM

Praia de Sibaúma

About 10km south by buggy — a long, wide beach with a fishing village at the far end and almost no tourist infrastructure in between. The water is clear and the sand is wide. No barracas in most sections — this is a bring-everything-yourself beach. Swim, walk, and enjoy the absence of other tourists.

12:00 PM

Dune landscape return

The buggy driver takes you back through the dune landscape between the beach and the village — stops at viewpoints and lagoons along the way depending on the route. The dunes here are lower and less dramatic than Cumbuco or Jericoacoara, but the combination with the coast is genuinely good.

1:30 PM

Late lunch in the village

Back in Pipa by early afternoon. Lunch at one of the village restaurants — the lobster and shrimp here are worth ordering at least once. Afternoon free for the beach or the Chapadão viewpoint again with different light.

Evening

Last proper night in the village

Day 3 is the last full evening in Pipa. The terrace bars and live music spots on the main street are worth exploring properly. In high season the village is genuinely lively until late — in low season it’s quieter but the restaurants and a couple of bars stay open.

Day 4 — Praia do Madeiro and Departure

Praia do Madeiro Pipa Brazil surf beach morning last day departure

Praia do Madeiro on a final morning — quieter than the main beach, with consistent surf and a clifftop walk back to the village that gives you a last look over the coast.

Morning

Praia do Madeiro

Save Praia do Madeiro for the last morning — it’s a 20-minute walk north along the clifftop and significantly quieter than the main beach, especially in the morning before the day-trippers arrive. Good for a final swim or just sitting with the surf. The walk back along the clifftop gives you a last view over Pipa before you leave.

12:00 PM

Lunch and checkout

Last lunch in the village. Most pousadas have flexible checkout — confirm the time at check-in so you’re not rushed on the last morning. A quick stop at one of the craft stalls on the main street if you want to take something back.

2:00 PM

Transfer to Natal

Uber or organized transfer back to Natal — 1.5 hours. Allow extra time if you have an evening flight; traffic around Natal can slow the approach to the city. Natal airport (São Gonçalo do Amarante) is about 30 minutes from the city center.

Budget Summary — 4 Days in Pipa

Buggy day (Day 3)$10–15 (shared)$30–50
Miscellaneous / drinks$20–30$50–80
Total 4 days~$208–330~$515–890

Practical Notes

  • Withdraw cash in Natal before arriving — Pipa has no bank branches and ATMs are unreliable. Most mid-range places take cards but smaller vendors and buggy drivers are cash-only.
  • Download a tide app before you go — “Tábua de Marés” covers the entire Brazilian coast and is free. The cliff-base walk to Praia do Amor only works at low tide.
  • Book the dolphin tour for Day 2 before you arrive. Early morning slots fill up fast in high season and the guides who know the lagoon best get booked first.
  • High season (December–February and July) means higher prices and a busier village. If you’re visiting then, book accommodation 4–6 weeks in advance.
  • The walk to Praia do Madeiro takes 20 minutes on a clifftop path — comfortable but exposed to sun. Leave early on Day 4 to avoid the midday heat if you’re departing in the afternoon.
  • If you have 3 days instead of 4: Day 1 village and Praia do Amor, Day 2 dolphin tour, Day 3 buggy to Sibaúma and departure. Skip Praia do Madeiro — it’s the most substitutable of the four days.
