Where to Stay in Foz do Iguaçu – The Brazil Travel Guide

Where to Stay in Foz do Iguaçu

Where to stay in Foz do Iguaçu comes down to one question: how close do you want to be to the falls? There are two main areas — the falls corridor along Avenida das Cataratas and the city center. Both work, but they suit different types of travelers.

Quick Answer — Which Area to Choose

Foz do Iguaçu is not a city you explore on foot. You’ll be taking Uber or bus between the falls, Itaipu, the Three Borders, and wherever you’re sleeping. With that in mind, the location decision matters less than people expect.

  • Stay near the falls corridor if you’re visiting for 1–2 days and want to minimize logistics — your hotel will likely offer shuttle service to the park entrance.
  • Stay in the city center if you’re on a budget, want more restaurant and bar options nearby, or staying for 3+ days and visiting multiple attractions.
  • Belmond Hotel das Cataratas if budget isn’t the primary concern — the only hotel inside the national park, with access to the falls before and after regular opening hours.

Avenida das Cataratas Corridor

The corridor along Avenida das Cataratas concentrates most mid-range and upscale hotels — closer to the park entrance than the city center.

The stretch of Avenida das Cataratas between the city and the national park entrance has the highest concentration of hotels in Foz do Iguaçu. Most of the mid-range and upscale options are here — well-equipped, often with pools, and close to the park entrance.

The tradeoff is that this corridor has very little outside the hotels themselves. Restaurants, bars, and services are limited compared to the city center. If you’re eating dinner at your hotel every night, that’s fine. If you want to go out, you’ll need an Uber.

Typical mid-range rates here run $80–160 USD per night. Look for hotels that include breakfast and shuttle service to the park — both are common in this area and save money over time.

City Center

The city center of Foz do Iguaçu — more affordable accommodation, better restaurant options, and easy Uber access to all attractions.

The city center is about 18km from the falls entrance — roughly 25 minutes by Uber or 30 minutes on the park bus (line 120). That distance sounds like a lot but in practice it’s not a problem. The bus is cheap and reliable, and Uber trips cost around R$30–40 each way.

The center has better food options, more budget accommodation, and a more local atmosphere. If you’re staying 3 or more days and splitting your time between the falls, Itaipu, and the Three Borders, the center is more central to everything.

Budget hostels here start around $15–25 USD per person for a dorm. Decent private rooms in 2–3 star hotels run $50–90 USD per night.

💡 Budget tipBus line 120 from the urban terminal in the city center goes directly to the park entrance. About 30 minutes and very cheap — around R$5. If you’re doing multiple days at the falls, this adds up to meaningful savings over Uber.

Luxury Option — Belmond Hotel das Cataratas

Belmond Hotel das Cataratas Foz do Iguacu Brazil colonial facade luxury

Belmond Hotel das Cataratas — the only hotel inside the national park, with exclusive access to the falls before and after the park opens to day visitors.

The Belmond Hotel das Cataratas is the only hotel located inside the Iguaçu National Park. Guests have access to the falls from 7am — two hours before day visitors arrive — and again after 6pm when the park closes to the public. On a clear morning, you can walk to the first viewpoints with almost no one else there.

The hotel is a restored colonial building from 1958, with 193 rooms, multiple pools, and restaurants with views of the falls. Rates start around $500–700 USD per night and rise significantly during peak season and Brazilian holidays.

If you’re considering it: the early access to the falls is genuinely special and alone justifies a one-night stay for the right traveler. Two nights is overkill unless you’re fully relaxing between visits.

ℹ️ Book well aheadThe Belmond fills up months in advance during Brazilian school holidays (January, July) and around long weekends. If you have specific dates, book as soon as you decide to go.

Practical Tips

  • Request an early check-in if you’re arriving to visit the falls the same day — most hotels along the corridor accommodate this.
  • Most mid-range hotels include breakfast. Factor this into your cost comparison — a good hotel breakfast in Brazil saves $8–12 USD per person per day.
  • Foz do Iguaçu is significantly cheaper than Rio or São Paulo at every budget level. Your money goes further here.
  • If you’re visiting both sides of the falls, staying near the park entrance makes the Argentine crossing easier — Puerto Iguazú is about 30 minutes by organized transport or taxi from the falls corridor.
  • The city center is safe and walkable at night — more so than most Brazilian cities of similar size.
